It's that special time of year again! Where family gets together to eat a huge feast, your grandparents warn you about all the superstitions to ensure you don't ward away the good luck. But you nod and smile, as you receive all the lucky red envelopes full of money. Here are a few Lunar New Year events happening in the city.

Toronto Chinatown New Year Celebration
Saturday, February 17 & Sunday, February 18, 2018 | 12PM - 5PM both days
Chinatown Center (280 Spadina Ave) & Dragon City Mall (280 Spadina Ave)
Cost: Free
Visit one of the largest Chinatowns in North America for a weekend of free performances, food and culture. There will be Lion Dance, Kung Fu and other fun festivities. You will be sure experience a traditional Chinese New Year in this lively area of the city.
Chinese New Year Parade
Saturday, February 17, 2018 | Starts at 11AM
Chinatown | Spadina Ave and Dundas St
Cost: Free
This event is hosted by Toronto’s Hong Luck Kung Fu club, Canada’s first kung fu school. Enjoy the playful show along Chinatown’s downtown streets, as the lion dances to each storefront, wishing them good luck for the upcoming year. Just follow the sound of the rhythmic drums, and pops of the firecrackers to find the brightly coloured lion.
Spend it with Family and Friends
If none of these events tickle your fancy, go out and enjoy the vast selection of Asian cuisine restaurants Toronto has to offer. We’ve got everything from Nepalese to Indonesian, to Japanese food. I know I always enjoy huge family dinners, with all my relatives and extra red pockets of money. No matter where you are in the city, you can always count on good company.
Wishing you health and happiness from the VIT Team!
