The Broadview Hotel

(416) 362-8439

Brunch is one of the most established weekend traditions in Toronto. Why? You get to sleep in, still order all your favorite breakfast foods, AND you are allowed to drink without judgement! It’s no wonder that this city has so many highly rated brunch spots. This week we decided to check out brunch at The Broadview Hotel.

The Broadview Hotel was built in 1891 and has been a historical landmark on the eastern side of Toronto for over 126 years. In the last few years it has been completely transformed from a gentleman’s club into a stylish boutique hotel with a new focus on giving visitors a unique culinary experience.

This is one of the tallest buildings east of the Don River. If you go up to the rooftop patio on the 7th floor you will be greeted with an unobstructed 360 degree view of the beautiful Toronto skyline. Seating is available both indoor and outdoor so rain or shine, it’s the perfect place to be.

For brunch we hung out in the Cafe + Bar on the main floor where there are large windows that just fill the space with so much light. The bar is beautifully designed with gold frames and marble counter tops with a subtle neon light on top reminiscent of its former days as a strip club.

Green Eggs & Ham ($15)

Parsley and tarragon deviled eggs with crispy pancetta shaved Black Forest ham, sourdough toast

These eggs are so creamy and flavorful. You will immediately regret offering to share this dish (if you made that mistake like I did) with your friends. The saltiness from the crispy pancetta was just the perfect finishing touch.

Schmear Platter for 2 ($21)

Tower of sesame and poppy seed bagels, citrus cured salmon, smoked mackerel and creme fraiche, horseradish and chive cream cheese, caper lemon and dill whipped ricotta, pickled onions, sliced cucumber

Lychee & Cactus Pear Juice ($7.50)

This pretty pink drink is very sweet and tasty. I was very curious as to what cactus pear juice tasted like and since it was mixed in with the lychee juice I can only say that it has a bit of a watermelon taste to it with a hint of strawberry.

Cheesecake Stuffed French Toast ($15)

House made challah soaked with custard, filled with vanilla bean and graham crumb cheesecake, gently fried in butter

If you are tired of boring old regular French toast, this will absolutely rock your world. The outside is cooked perfectly so that even after you pour that syrup on, you still get a light crunch when you bite into it. The filling is also phenomenal! Smooth and sweet everything just melts in your mouth.

If you like seeing a bit of history re-imagined into something modern, The Broadview Hotel certainly does have a lot to offer with little nods to the past sprinkled throughout the building. Having been here during the day now, I am excited to return in the evening to see the views and to try their dinner menu.
